That’s why, PROSPECT would like to express, “Welcome to SMKN 1 Samarinda, to those who are accepted to be the students of SMKN 1 Samarinda”. Remem- ber! There are many persons who struggle to get a chair in this school, but not all can be accepted. Hence, congratulation for you, as the lucky persons.

     By being the new student of this school, means you are going to face the new tasks. You have to the way  prepare yourself very well to study here, because, basically of studying here is nearly different wish the one you have done before. In this case, you should be able to use all of your spare time to develop    yourself by doing everything, which can support your study. Don’t waste your time for doing the useless thing which can loose your chance to reach your dream. You should know that it’s too hard for your to be promoted in school, moreover to pass the national final test. Oncemore, it’s too hard, that’s why when you put your first step in this school, you should say to yourself that “No time for others except learning”.

WELCOME TO

THE TOURISM DEPARTMENT

 

We want to introduce you about tourism depart ment!. You know so meting about it? No…?. We want to ask  you: “what’s your imagination when you hear about ‘tourism’ word?. A traveling??? Just a traveling?. The specification from tourism department isn’t just traveling, there we can get many advantage and a lot of fun, include traveling.

SMK Negeri 1 Samarinda which is located on Jl. Pahlawan no. 4 consists of four department. They are: Business and Management, Accounting, Secretary and Tourism. Each department has specific lessons given to students, however there are some general subjects taught to all students, such as Moral, history, religion and mathematics.

In tourism department we may find some differences that make tourism department is special, for example:

ţ       Every year tourism department conduct a special ceremony called the Get Together. To celebrate or to introduce the real meaning of tourism department to the student. Usually the Get Together performs dances, song, door prize and the opportunities of sharing stories about anything related to tourism department.

ţ       Tourism department also held the outdoor activities every year. They can be visiting airport or hotels in order to show the students the practice of tourism department. Beside visiting airport or hotels we also held the trip of tourism to many places, the purpose of this session for not only refreshing but also showing the ability of students in guiding practice.

ţ       Every department held the activity of on the job training. The place is usually: hotels, airport, travel agents, or even become freelance in some tourism department offices in town.

In tourism department, the students learn about how to be a good guide, how to work travel agent, how to work in hotels. The students are given the knowledge about tourism attraction, both Indonesia and abroad. The way of fulfilling the form in ticketing agency, the education about managing personality in learning how to guide tourists, even the attitude of table manner if we want to work in hotel (restaurant).

Since the tourism department always deals with tourism attraction and all things related to it. The ability of English is definitely needed, both spoken and written. However it does not meant if we want to choose the department we have to master English.

FALSE LOVE

 am a girl and still study at SMK 1 Samarinda. My name is Pujawati. I am the second grade and 17 years old now. Today I will share my experience about love. I think everybody knows it, sure!.

OK observe it. For about one year ago. I ever fell in love with someone. His name is Sunil. You know guys, he is my first love. I love him so much because he’s handsome. However, it just happened 3 weeks. I didn’t know why he had broken our love. After that, I kept on crying. I always remember him. I cannot forget him. According to my friends when he fell in love with me. He also had one girl beside me. How pity I am.

One year is gone. I have forgotten him, because someone else loves me. His name is Amar. I met him for the first time when I saw magic in somewhere. I did not know who he was. But he kept seeing me. Of course, I fell shy. At 10.00 p.m., it has finished, so I went home on foot. Suddenly, someone called me “Puja wait for me”. And then I looked at him, I was surprised cause the man who called me is Amar. Why he followed me. In fact, Amar is the cousin of my friend, finally. I walked together with him while talking about ourselves.

He often stays at my friend’s house. However, his house is so far. He does it just to meet me. I don’t know why, but one night there was a show in my village. I hoped Amar came and saw it. After waiting for him for a long time, finally he came. He sat beside me, but just a moment at 02.00 a.m. I wanted to go home, but I wasn’t brave. Therefore, Amar accompanied me. On the way home, he asked me to be his girl friend and I received it.

Since that time, he always comes to my house. How pity he is. He does not care how much money he turns out. I love him and so does he. I am very happy.

However, for about one month he never comes to my home. I do not know why. I try to be patience. One Sunday I went to SCP Mall with my friends. We wanted to buy something. I was surprised cause fancy meeting Amar with his girl friend standing in wedding gallery. I wanted to cry, but I could not. After getting home, I called him up to ask who girl beside him was. He said that she will be his wife. I was so sock to hear it. Why he didn’t give me information that he will get married. What kind of love do we have, but, I do hope it doesn’t go to you and I hope he won’t be happy cause he makes me disappointed. You know people; Amar is 18 years old now (**)

ENGLISH DEBATE CLASS

Recently, it’s no doubt that English has become an utmost part of human life. That is why, in our country, English is taught from the elementary school until the university level. Means to say that every graduation from every level of school should have the knowledge of English. In this case, the graduation is expected to have the ability of speaking English, at least for very simple conversation.

      Depart from the above statement, in our formal educational institute, especially for the vocational school, nowadays is developing a new paradigm of English teaching, i.e. ‘Use English to learn, to compare with the old one, learn English to use’.

     Use English to learn means, in our teaching-learning process of English, the

English teacher is expected to encourage the students to speak English during the English class without caring so much about the grammar. Let them speak at will, to convey their ideas. While doing this, the English teacher should the note about all mistakes the students do. This is very important, because at the end of the process of English class, the English teacher should give the reinforcement by explaining why the student’s sentence is grammatically wrong. In this, contact the parathion of teaching. This paradigm has been nationally researched, and shows that it is an effective way to make the student can speak English rather than the old one, where the English teacher as possible without caring whether the students are able to use that grammar in their life or not. Moreover, the students are only ordered to do the exercises in their textbook. We can imagine when the students have the opportunity to practice their speaking.

     To realize how important the speaking is, SMKN 1 Samarinda as a formal vocational education institution is running an English special class; which is called ‘English Debate Class’. This class is pointed to students who have high motivation in speaking English and to those who want to progress their English especially in speaking ability. It is the best English class in our school because all process only happens in English. It is held by the teacher and instructor who have had nationally experience. That’s why; it is so appropriarate place to guide the students to increase the speaking ability.

     In this class, the students are guided to deliver their idea in English and strive to defend when they are rebutted by their opponent. It is very good for the students to improve their English. We know that we can be called to master English when we are able to convey our idea or feeling, by using English and how far we are able to discuss something in English.

     That’s way, in this class the students are taught how to see a motion/theme, to give ideas, to rebut the opponent’s statement, to defend argument and to make the conclusion of the speech. The stressing of this class is only the speaking ability; of course, there is no grammar to be stressed, even though it is very important to use to make our statement/speech clearly understandable. However, the speaking plays the utmost role in our daily talk. Because language is spoken not writing. So don’t worry to speak.

     English debate class is held out of regular class (it is usually held in the afternoon). With the time allocation is twice a week. The aim of this class is to prepare the tearn of debate as the representative of our school to take part the promotion of students competency either for province or national degree.

    That’s why from ‘PROSPECT’ I as the coordinator of debate, invite the students of SMKN 1 Samarinda to joint this class. Because your chance is only once. It cannot be returned when you loose it. Once more, come and join us (*)

 

 

READING IS INTERESTING

He title above is not true, especially for people who do not like reading. However, for others. Who really like it? They will agree with it. Reading is one activity for daily life. Reading has deeply meaning because by reading, we can get knowledge and lessons that we have never known before. Reading is very important for our daily life. For example: When we were child, we used to hear about fable story before we went to sleep and reading is one process for studying. It began when we were child forever most people get their knowledge not just from formal education but they can find it through books. Reading can divide into two kinds: First, reading for getting knowledge and second, reading for fun. In addition, if we want to know it well, here is the explanation:

A. Reading  For Getting Knowledge

     Reading is very important for people who want to get knowledge and wide information about something that she/he really needs it. As a good student, we are challenged to have a good skill because if we want to be success in our test, we have to have a good preparation before we face it. In addition, to read some book. There are many kinds of books for making us get knowledge for example: books of science, geography, biology, accounting, secretary etc. So if we have problem for our lesson we can look it that book and it must be convenient with what we are looking for. Since prophet period, especially Muhammad. He asked his followers to read. In this case, I have found the paragraph on Qur’an especially on QS. Al Allaq for the first time. God asked Muhammad for reading, although that time. He could not read but he was given a greet ability by God for reading and then he was guiding followers for reading. Reading is not just reading about something but how to understand it. It is very important because after we have read about something, we have to think that we will be doing something and it is very worth. For example: Thomas Alva Edison is one of expert. He was dropped out from his school because his teacher called him a stupid man but he had a good interest for reading and because of feeling curious. He wanted to prove that he could make a good creation of his dream, through his experiment he could make a good creation and his creation was very famous because he is one of most people who could make a good inovation to be appreciated by people. In addition, nowadays, we find that e few experts. Finding a modern technology for helping people. Therefore, it means that  the improvement of technology, the human life will be easier, faster and more comfortable than before. So, if we want to be success in our life. We have to advance our knowledge by reading.

B. Reading for Fun

     Reading is not just getting knowledge but getting fun too only for getting knowledge but also setting fun. For example: books of literature especially for fiction  books like novel, comic etc. Fiction books are more serious than scientific books because it can give some influences like afraid, fun, sad, happiness etc. after we have read those books. We have a good pleasure because it is selected with our convenient for getting fun. For example: we read novel books for teenager we have to select it before reading, because for selecting a good book, we can get truly happiness to fulfill empty soul. In addition, sometimes some people said that reading is soul food and life becomes  empty if we do not fill it with a greet book. Can we imagine! If in this word, there are not people who really like reading. We will be the stupid person without any progress. Therefore, it means that we cannot get any changing in this world without READING. Ne day, I have ever imagined become a professional secretary. Who responsible to the director and the company. I know that, to become a secretary is forced us to have an attractive performance, full prestige, have the ability/skills as a secretary such as typing, correspondence, make reports, mastering every office machines, etc. then a secretary needs to have wide general knowledge like organization of company’s management, also about trade, and mastering languages either correct Indonesian and fluent active English, and other foreign languages. A secretary needs to do job or duty which is given by director, as long as it is still  something to do with office job. I must learn about all of it, because I want to be a professional secretary for society, director and relations who have connection and need to cooperate with me, and also my family and my closest people.

     Oh, how happy I am if my dream comes true. In my mind, a secretary has to keep the company’s secret and director and as a person who can be trusted to do the office job. The characteristics of a secretary she should have the personality’s reflection as a secretary or friend, honest, active, patient, loyal, cooperative, corrective, diligent, careful, adaptable, skills, generous, self control etc.

     Yesterday, I met my best friend, Cici, we share story each other and we just like sisters but the condition had separated us because 4 years ago, her parents asked her to move to another city. We still contacted each other by phone. However, when I met her she looked different. Cici whom I knew before looked as sensitive plant and she wore glasses, but Cici whom I see now is truly different, she is more gorgeous, efficient, prestige full, energic, her attractive performance is reflecting her personality and high educated. The fact her occupation is secretary on one the company of her city. She comes here to of have business. Fancy meeting her yesterday.

      How happy I was at that time, my best friend has succeded to be a secretary. This makes me wish my dream could be true. Finally, both of us shatted about her new profession and her life. Then she supports my dream to be secretary and wishes it would be reality. Amiin!!!.

     I promise to myself to study hard and always as optimistic as I can. I never forget to pray to God that my career as a secretary. I need to prepare my self well working and joining skills training. Which is related to my future career, SECRETARY. (*)

Forest, surely we know very much. Forest is a large area that many trees and plants and many animals live and grow there. There are several kinds of forest. Based on its formed, forest consists of natural forest and unnatural forest. A natural forest is a forest that human cannot make it and it is formed by nature. An unnatural forest is a forest that made by human. Forest is not only a big and large area, but also a big function for our life. The root of the trees in the forest can absorb the rain, so water is saving and flood can prevented. Forest also gives away so much oxygen (O₂) for our life. Indonesia has many big forests on its territorial, especially in Kalimantan. That is why people on the world called Kalimantan as “the breath of the world”.

     A forest has so many functions for our life. Therefore, when it is destroyed it can be our threaten. For example, like incident in Pacet Mojokerto-Jawa Timur several time ago. Which has so many victims. It is caused by the forest in that area has been cut down. If the forest has been cut down, there is no more plants to absorb the rain, so the rain falling down to the area under the forest. Surely, we do not want this accident happen for next time. Therefore, we have to protect our forest from the broker and from the change of the life.

     As it is stated before, East Kalimantan, our lovely province has very large forest area. It makes the world force us to remain the forest. Because without forest. Might be we do not have breath anymore. Surely, we

have to proud about our forest. However, many irresponsible men exactly break our forest. Normally people know about the function of forest but because of money, they do not think longer about their families and their next generation. However, the broker of forest is not only individually, but also companies do this, especially for those whose field related to the forest. People usually burn the forest to make new fields.  In the reality, companies make more destroy, compare with the people.

    The government actually has done more than we wish to protect our forest. If we want to stay alive for a long generation, we have to be the first in protecting the forest. We do not have to catch the destroyer, but we just, try not to destroy  our lovely forest if we try to protect the forest I believe the destroyer of the forest will not appear anymore. So, keep our forest save and try to do something to protect our forest for our life now and our next generation (*).
